Business Process Document

The Significance Of A Business Process Document

Once you have decided to go for process mapping and have already started doing it, you would need a thorough analysis of the business process document produced as a result of process mapping. This could be slightly difficult because you need to find what is relevant and what inference to draw from the document.

Before we move on to the analysis of process document, it is important to understand what process mapping is all about. Without clearly understanding what a process mapping is, you would probably be groping in the dark about its objective and usefulness.

If you are businessman and have recently started your own business, you probably would still be thinking in terms of business being an integrated whole. Yes, business indeed is an integrated whole but only to the extent that all activities are directed towards achieving a predetermined goal.

Therefore, business is one only in the sense of a common objective towards which all activities are directed, but it is actually an integration of different processes. And these processes have different actions. So, actions make processes and processes make a business. This is how it goes.

Now, a situation arrives when one has to analyze why one's business is going down or what steps could be taken to improve the business output. For this, it is important that whatever is done in the name of business is carefully observed. In other words, every process has to be put under the scanner so as to have a thorough evaluation of each of the component parts of your business.

This is what process mapping is about. A process map puts before you what each process of the business is doing and what results each one of them is producing. This is where you get the chance to see which process or processes are responsible for the slow growth of your business and what improvement can be made to them.

Knowing the problem, as they say, is half the battle won. So, once you know the problem you can work on the solution. You can dismantle a process and regroup its actions or merge the process with other processes or drop a process altogether and retaining only its useful actions by merging them into another process.

Once process mapping is done, you have in your hand what is referred to as business process document. It is kind of an evaluation report, which you have to closely analyze. In fact, without a proper analysis of this report, the conclusions drawn will always be erroneous. So, you need someone who is skillful in not only process mapping but also in comprehending a business process document so that the painstakingly done process mapping produces the desired results and gives you a good idea about how you business is doing and how can it be improved.
